I wanted more! Very good! A but confusing at parts but I wish it was longer!
Angela,
In Bloom by Paul TremblayThe fourth story in the Creature Feature collection by Amazon。 The blue green algae of Cape Cod and surrounding areas, takes on a life of its own!
Ryan,
Despite the environmental theme here, I just couldn’t get into this one。 It was good, just not as good as the previous three books in the collection。
Courtney McGhee,
This is another one of those “what the fuck did I just read?” Books。 I didn’t understand the storyline at all。 There was a toxic water algae monster that ate a guys dad back in the 80s and came back? I was more interested in the romance Heidi was having with her roommate Ty which we never got a conclusion on。 That was a waste of time。
Jen Johnson,
Tremblay is hit or miss for me, and this one was a miss。 He’s a talented writer and creates great characters。 I think he’s better in longer form - this ending felt abrupt。
Dana,
{4。5 stars}What if toxic algae is more sinister and sentient than we realize? This was a tease but an excellent one。 I love a non-traditional horror baddie and more scientific protagonists!
Cristian Marrero,
1983 Baseball。 I having read almost all Stephen King novels, this felt like a copy-cat。 Blah feeling。 Not really scary。Take pond/lake。 Town and all its dirty little secrets。 A bit spooky and something to think about for younger minds。
Linda,
Baseball and bazillions of toxic algae。。。。Never thought that was a combo until now。When the story hits, you do the leg work。 That's what journalist Heidi Cohen intends on doing。 There's a storm of toxic algae running rampant in streams, ponds, and lakes along the coast。 It's an attention getter even if you are not scientifically minded。Heidi comes across Jimmy who is willing to sit for an interview。 But it doesn't start with now。 It's a blast from the past from his childhood。 Jimmy attended a ba Baseball and bazillions of toxic algae。。。。Never thought that was a combo until now。When the story hits, you do the leg work。 That's what journalist Heidi Cohen intends on doing。 There's a storm of toxic algae running rampant in streams, ponds, and lakes along the coast。 It's an attention getter even if you are not scientifically minded。Heidi comes across Jimmy who is willing to sit for an interview。 But it doesn't start with now。 It's a blast from the past from his childhood。 Jimmy attended a baseball game in his youth with his dad。 Even though their relationship wasn't the best, it was an opportunity to just spend time together。 Spending time included the huge crowd and something uncanny happening in the distance。。。。。。with dire after effects。In Bloom is not a bad read。 3 Stars is still a fair read。 What we needed here was more background and a building intensity from the get-go。 Blue and green algae fans will be disappointed that their little friends didn't have much Act I time on stage before the finale。 Tremblay was too anxious to bring the curtain down too fast。I'd say to check out all the other short stories in the Creature Feature Collection available on Amazon。 Loved 'em。 Hoping for this clever collection to keep gifting us readers。 Check 'em out。 。。。more
Victoria Minton,
Paul Tremblay is quickly becoming an author who I expect ambiguity from and I appreciate that I also definitely loved the creature from this book as someone who has tread some questionable waters in her life
Shawnie,
2023 Amazon Creature Feature #4。。。 Ok。 Creepy enough。 I didn't quite envision the ending like I wanted to。 2023 Amazon Creature Feature #4。。。 Ok。 Creepy enough。 I didn't quite envision the ending like I wanted to。 。。。more
Bex,
Good read!!!A very easy quick, and with a great sense of dread, would recommend for a quick and easy read。 3 stars
MR ALEXANDER DICKINSON,
So so。 Well written but kind of pointless with too many loose ends。
Susanne,
3。5 starsThis would probably have been better as longer story, it felt a bit incomplete to me。 It also felt a little out of place in this collection; I expected something more scary and less sci-fi。
Jordan,
It just felt。。。not finished。。。

Chris Lee,
Environmental horror with a fun story and a tad bit of nostalgia。 Sign me up!Heidi is a Cape Cod journalist who is writing a story about a recent uptick in algae blooms in the area。 A local named Jimmy has a story to tell Heidi that may seem too fantastical to believe。 Back in the 80’s, Jimmy witnessed something horrific at a baseball game that has haunted him for decades。 Will Heidi believe what he has to say and publish the story? She may not have the opportunity to do so。This short story was Environmental horror with a fun story and a tad bit of nostalgia。 Sign me up!Heidi is a Cape Cod journalist who is writing a story about a recent uptick in algae blooms in the area。 A local named Jimmy has a story to tell Heidi that may seem too fantastical to believe。 Back in the 80’s, Jimmy witnessed something horrific at a baseball game that has haunted him for decades。 Will Heidi believe what he has to say and publish the story? Erika Sarutobi,
I thought I was gonna like it because of the environmental aspect, but nope! Half the book is just unnecessary details, like why do I have to read pages about baseball???RTC
Jenny,
I can be both hot and cold about Paul Tremblay but this short story is one of my favorites…。honestly, better than a lot of stories in his last collection。
Helga,
Ok, I have a question。 Who tagged this as horror? The only scary thing about this book was the use of all the difficult-spelling, big scientific words。
Lunasa,
Lol no
Alexis Flinn,
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was really into it, especially considering these types of like, fungus/algae getting into people's heads type stories aren't usually for me。 However, the ending really lacked。。 Lacked detail, lacked closure。 I don't know。 I think I'd read it if it was fleshed out into a full novel where her and Jimmy research the algae and monster/hallucinations。 Also what happens with Ty?! We can all guess but man。 No final message。 Damn。 I was really into it, especially considering these types of like, fungus/algae getting into people's heads type stories aren't usually for me。 However, the ending really lacked。。 Lacked detail, lacked closure。 I don't know。 I think I'd read it if it was fleshed out into a full novel where her and Jimmy research the algae and monster/hallucinations。 Also what happens with Ty?! Jami,
This was just okay for me。 The ending was too abrupt for my liking。
Jennifer,
I have no idea what I read
Christie,
Paul Tremblay keeps rehashing the same end of the world, pandemicy plot lines over and over again。 Explore new territory!!
Manab Kalita,
DNF。 The build up felt like it was forced, and somewhere in the middle of the overstuffed baseball match, I lost track of what was going on。 Insufferable, even for a short read。
Sally,
Good writing, but not scary。 And a little unnecessary。
Steven R。,
Great EndingI really enjoyed story。 It moved along well and came to a great ending。 A good part of this set of stories。
Jacob Elliott,
This is the second time I've tried Paul Tremblay's work and I think I can officially say his writing isn't for me。 I liked pieces of this, but overall it felt bogged down by the narrative style and the overzealous vocabulary。 Tremblay is clearly talented - just not for me。 This is the second time I've tried Paul Tremblay's work and I think I can officially say his writing isn't for me。 I liked pieces of this, but overall it felt bogged down by the narrative style and the overzealous vocabulary。 Tremblay is clearly talented - just not for me。 。。。more
Marie Campbell,
Wait…Don’t End Like That!!Oh my goodness gracious, why do you end it like that??? This was a crazy ride。 The algae coming to life and becoming something。 I really need more to this story…
Stephanie Linnell,
This was probably my least favorite story from the Creature Feature Collection。 The story that is told in the middle is genuinely creepy, but the rest just drags on a bit。 I love all of Tremblay's novels, but unfortunately I haven't had a great experience with his short stories as I didn't really enjoy Growing Things either。 That's ok though as I will still continue to read all of his novels!
